Collective Knowledge about Servant Leadership

 


Your Group's Assignment:  What are the characteristics of Servant Leadership that align with each of the School Improvement Categories: Instructional, Shared, Operational/Resource Management and with Interpersonal Relationships?

Instructional Leadership

Servant leaders are positioned at the center of the organization and are in contact with all aspects of educational delivery.  Key skills of this type of leader address the ablilty to be aware of the adult learner's needs.  These skills are the ability to listen, to have empathy, collaboratation, trust and the ethical use of power.  There is a strong component of instructional support through coaching and facilitating instruction. 

 

 

 

Shared Leadership

The servant leader is nuturing and embedded in the organization.  Thus allowing the school culture and climate to be positively affected by the inclusive and equitable nature, the use of collaborative inquiry and the collaborative decision making process as a whole organization.  The decisions come within, not from a top down heirarchy. 

 

 

 

Operational/Resource Management

Servant leadership is all about human resources. 

The skills of this type of leader are:

Understanding personal needs, healing wounds caused by conflict, being a steward of the resources, ability to develop skills withing the organization, being an effective listener. 

 

 

 

Interpersonal Relationships

The interpersonal skills required of a servant leader are:
