Define the Theory
By definition transformational leaders are charismatic and inspirational because of their leadership passion. They appeal to followers on an emotional level and seek to understand and then transform. They are flexible and adaptable and continuously implement "new" ideas. They believe in others and seek to improve those around them. They are people with vision and passion who tend to see the "big picture" and surround themselves with detail orientated people to avoid failure.
The downfall to transfromational leadership lies within the leaders enthusiasm and zest for change. They truly must communicate effectively with their followers, motivate, nurture and involve constituents, only after accurately assessing the climate for change. Building competency and credibility will promote organizational buy-in and effective change.
Who are the proponents?
Bernard Bass and James MacGregor Burns
