Define the Theory
The term servant leadership was coined by Robert Greenleaf in 1970. The servant leadership concept begins wth the natural feeling that one wants to to serve, serve first and then a conscious choice to leader. Key characteristics include: enabler of others, mission based decision making, placining the needs of others before your own, respectful of others' differences, capacity tp continually learn and grow, and sense of humility. The role of the servant leader is one of a steward of the resources of the group to allow others to grow and meet their full potential
What are the outcomes? When might this leadership style be used?
Sense of community
Enhance the growth of the individual and therefor the organization
Shared sense of mission and vision to support PLC initiatives
Clear basis for decision making - the good of the group vs good of the individual
A focus on learning versus training in staff development
