Collective Knowledge about Situational Leadership

 


Your Group's Assignment:  What are the characteristics of Situational Leadership that align with each of the School Improvement Categories: Instructional, Shared, Operational/Resource Management and with Interpersonal Relationships? 

 

 

Using This Wiki

Educational Program: 

Leader has to be knowledgeable about the school's educational programs to understand his/her follower's level of knowledge/competence.

     Change Agent:  Leader understands and acts on their roles as a catalyst for change

     Knowledge of Adult Learning:  Leaders understand and apply adult learning theory

 

Instructional Support:

Leader monitors, supports, and makes adjustments to enhance instruction

     Monitoring:  Monitor prorams and practices

     Coaching and Facilitating:

     Clear Expectations:

     Collaboration and Communication:

 

Shared Leadership

 School Culture and Climate:

     Inclusive and Equitable:  Leader has to determine the degree of inclusiveness that is needed

     Collaborative Inquiry:  Leader needs to understand followers to determine to degree to which this is done

     Collaborative Decision Making Process:  Leaders need to asses degree of collaboration  based on followers' willingness/competence

 

Continuous Improvement:

     Shared Vision and Mission:  Leader needs to understand vision and mission to determine to assess followers' degree of it being shared

     Monitored:  Leader needs to monitor change process to assess willingness/compentency and implement needed leadership style

 

Operational/Resource Management

 Resource Allocation:

     Human Resources:  Determining type of leadership style(s) to utilize

     Time:  Leaders have to understand followers' willingness/competence to assess amount of time needed

     Space:  Leaders have to understand followers' willingness/compentence/responsibilities to determine space alloacation

 

Interpersonal Relationships

Approached differently based on the situation and the "maturity" of the followers.

Leader's attentiveness on interpersonal relationships depends on the followers' committment/willingness and ability/competence.
