Collective Knowledge about Participative Leadership

Using This Wiki

Define the Theory
When a leader involves stakeholders in the decision making process. It is also known as democratic decision making, shared decision making. The final decision can vary from the leader having the final say to the group reaching consensus on the decision.

Outcomes include:
Buy in and support for the idea
Broaden stakeholder understanding of the issue
Involvement makes a stonger committment to the decision
Creates synergy among stakeholders for the decision that is reached.
The more heads you involve in the decision the better the outcome (like a wiki)
This leadership style is used when the success of a program or idea is dependent on the buy in from the stakeholders. Used to help make major decision that will affect the way stakeholder do business. As a principal it can be used to make instrucional changes, ie., strategies, curriculum, etc.
What are the critical skills an administrator would need to be able to demonstrate this leadership style?
The ability to gain acceptance of stakeholders. Trusting and good interpersonal relationships with stakeholders. Have the skill of knowing decision making processes and being able to lead the process. Being accepting of others ideas and opinions. Being a good listener without making judgements.
