Define the Theory

The leader adapts his/her leadership style based on the needs and competencies of the followers. (Differentiated Leadership)

What are the outcomes?  When might this leadership style be used?

Success occurs when the leadership style matches the characteristics (situation and needs) of the followers.

Problems arise when these characteristics do not match.

This leadership style would be easiest utilized in small groups with homogeneous characteristics/needs or on an individual basis. (Examples: teacher evaluations; school improvement teams)

What are the critical skills an administrator would need to be able to demonstrate this leadership style?

 Flexibility and inter/intrapersonal skills.
