Collective Knowledge about Servant Leadership

 


Your Group's Assignment:  What are the characteristics of Servant Leadership that align with each of the School Improvement Categories: Instructional, Shared, Operational/Resource Management and with Interpersonal Relationships? 

 

 

Using This Wiki

  1. Select a recorder.
  2. Recorder will enter in the space below the group's collective knowledge in each category. While the recorder is entering text into the wiki, group members stand behind, providing input!
  3. To add text, click on the "Edit Page" button at the top left. You will be prompted to enter a password. The password is the name of our program. You will also be asked to enter your name so we can know who edited the page.
  4. After you have logged in with a password and your first name, insert your cursor where you want to begin typing, and begin!
  5. Don't forget to click the "Save" button at the bottom of your screen occasionally!

Instructional Leadership

 

  • The Servant Leader uses persuasion.  He/she seeks to convince rather coerce compliance.

  • The Servant Leader must also have foresight.  He/she must take lessons from the past, be knowledgeable of the realities of the present, and know the likely consequences of the future.

  • The Servant Leader should also possess conceptualization skills, be able to think beyond the day to day realities, but still balance those future dreams with the present.

 

Shared Leadership

  • The Servant Leader must be a good listener.  He/she must be able to identify and clarify the will of the group.
  • The Servant Leader must be empathetic; understand, accept, and recognize others as people.
  • The Servant Leader must be a healer.  He/she would heal the wounds caused by internal conflicts within the organization/school.
  • The Servant Leader must have awareness; know what is going on throughout the organization.

 

 

 

Operational/Resource Management

  • As the operational manager, the Servant Leader would again utilize his/her awareness capacity to stay on top of what is happening throughout the organization.

  • The Servant Leader would also be a steward of his/her organization.  He/she would be sure that each individual is participating in a certain capacity and has the necessary resources.

 

Interpersonal Relationships

  • The Servant Leader shall be committed to personal and professional growth in the organization.  He/she must also build community with those who play the various roles in the organization.
