Collective Knowledge about Participative Leadership

 


Your Group's Assignment:  When you have completed your reading and web search, collectively respond to the questions below in preparation to "teach" your concept with your original "home group."

 

 

Using This Wiki

Define the Theory

 

Joint decision making, collaborative, democratic process, and involves all stakeholders.  The model is on a continuum of participation or engagement.  Ideally the leader operates at the highly participative end of the continuum vs. the not participative end.

 

 

 

 

 

What are the outcomes?  When might this leadership style be used?

 

Stakeholder buy in.   A higher degree of creativity and quality are results of this kind of leadership model.  Proponents of this kind of leadership style was found in the business world.  (ie. Disney)  Participants report that they feel more valued when this approach is used.

 

When the followers are knowledgeable of the organization's process and change is needed. This style is used in a school setting in the following areas: finance decisions, hiring, goal setting, strategic planning, etc.

 

 

 

 

What are the critical skills an administrator would need to be able to demonstrate this leadership style?

 

Courageous leadership, listening skills, risk taker, facilitator, mediator, empowerment, be open, be trusting, and empower the group.
